A woman who won $1 million in the Massachusetts State Lottery said the color of the ticket was one of the major deciding factors in why she bought it.

Maria Manchester, of Fall River, won the payday playing the “Emerald Mine 50X” game, a $5 scratch-off ticket.

Manchester elected to take the lump sum payment of $650,000 (before taxes) rather than the annuity, which would have paid the entire amount over 20 years.

She said she chose that particular ticket because it was a newer game, and it was green.

Manchester bought the ticket at AMS Food Mart, 2307 South Main St. in Fall River. The store will get a $10,000 bonus for the sale.
