The case of 12-year-old Jacqueline “Mimi” Torres-Garcia, whose body was found stuffed in a plastic bin behind an abandoned Connecticut home, is sparking intense outrage online as police reveal new details about her death.
The girl's mother, Karla Garcia, 29, and aunt, Jackelyn Garcia, 28, were both arrested and charged in connection with the child’s death. Garcia’s boyfriend, Jonatan Nanita, 30, was later arrested on murder with special circumstances and other charges, after a brief search, police said.

Worcester Man Convicted Of Murder In Shooting Over Restaurant Bill Dispute: DA
A Worcester County Superior Court jury has found a man guilty in the fatal shooting of Joshua Lopez in 2020.
Leroy L. Thompson Jr., 30, of Worcester, was convicted of second-degree murder and reckless endangerment of a child on Thursday, Aug. 7, the Worcester County District Attorney's Office said.
The shooting occurred early on July 5, 2020, when Lopez, 24, was shot while sitting in the backseat of a car on Almont Avenue in Worcester. A child was also in the vehicle at the time. Lopez succumbed to his injuries on July 6, 2020.

Patty Morin, the mother of Rachel Morin, whose killer was convicted of rape and murder this week, took to the podium on April 16, to address the media.

Nita Lowey, Powerful Congresswoman For Decades, Dies
Nita Lowey, a powerful member of Congress for decades while representing parts of downstate New York, has died.
She was 87.
Lowey, who represented much of Westchester as well as Rockland County, died on Saturday, March 15 at her home in Harrison, her family announced, saying the cause of death was complications from metastatic breast cancer.
Lowey, a Democrat, served in Congress from 1989 until 2021 after deciding not to seek re-election.
