New England Native, Ex-mlb Commish Fay Vincent Dies At 86: 'He Lived A Home Run Of A Life' Former Major League Baseball Commissioner and Connecticut native Fay Vincent died Saturday, Feb. 1, at his home in Florida. He was 86. Vincent, who was born in Waterbury and spent most of his life after baseball in New Canaan, had undergone treatment for bladder cancer. Complications from radiation therapy caused him to stop chemotherapy, his wife told CBS News. Vincent took the reins of Major League Baseball in 1989 following the sudden death of A. Man Found Dead Near Mall In New England A man was found dead in a secluded outdoor area near a Connecticut mall. Police in in New Haven County said the discovery occurred at about 2:25 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 23, at the Brass Mill Center Mall in Waterbury.  Officers responding to reports of an unresponsive person located the body of the person in a remote area near the mall’s parking lot. The case is being treated as an untimely death.  Authorities are working with the Connecticut Office of the Chief Medical Examiner to determine the official cause and manner of death. Big Lots Expands Store Closures Amid Bankruptcy Filing: Here's Rundown In Mass. Discount retail chain Big Lots has filed for bankruptcy as its list of planned store closures expands. It currently has around 1,425 stores nationwide. The company announced on Monday, Sept. 9 that it will sell its assets to an affiliate of private equity firm Nexus Capital Management. In announcing initial store closures late in late July, Big Lots said a bankruptcy filing could be coming.
