The identity has been released of a suspect who apparently targeted the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) opened fire on four of its buildings in Atlanta. A new COVID-19 variant marked by a painful “razor-blade throat” symptom is spreading rapidly in the United States. The strain, NB.1.8.1, also called Nimbus, is an offshoot of the highly transmissible Omicron subvariant JN.1. Federal health officials have announced sweeping new COVID-19 guidelines, including for schools and quarantines for those infected. In the updated guidance unveiled on Thursday, Aug. 11, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said it was no longer recommending that unvaccinated people quarantine after possibly being exposed to the virus.
