No Jail Time For Ex-Mass. Officer Who Punched Handcuffed Man 13 Times: Feds
A former Weymouth police officer who was caught on video camera beating a handcuffed suspect will not serve any jail time, federal authorities said. Justin Chappell, 43, was sentenced to two years of supervised release, with the first six months to be spent under house arrest, the US Attorney for Massachusetts said on Tuesday, July 16. He must also complete 40 hours of community service each year of his supervised release. Florida police say a retired Quincy police lieutenant tried to entice an undercover officer he believed was a 14-year-old into having sex for $80. Jeffrey Burrell, 68, is charged with soliciting a child for unlawful sexual conduct using a computer and unlawful use of a two-way communications device, the Nassau County Sheriff's Office said. Massachusetts Native, 41, Killed By Lightning During Army Training Remembered As Husband, Dad
A Massachusetts native was the only one who lost his life during an army training exercise in Georgia earlier this week. Sgt. 1st Class Michael D. Clark, a Springfield native who was a resident of the town of Bolton in Tolland County, Connecticut, was killed when he and eight other soldiers were struck by lightning at Training Area 26 in Fort Gordon, the US Army said in a release.
