Tropical Storm Philippe is expected to track north off the East Coast with its forecast cone approaching the coastline of parts of northern New England. As of Wednesday morning, Oct. 4, the center of Tropical Storm Philippe is about 110 miles north-northwest of the Virginia Islands. The storm is packed with 45 mph winds with higher gusts. Pair Of Potential New Tropical Systems Brewing In Atlantic: Here's Latest
A pair of potential new tropical systems with the potential for development are being monitored by forecasters. The first, off the coast of Florida, is far west of Tropical Storm Philippe, which is now near the eastern Caribbean. (See the first image above.) Just as Ophelia barrels up the East Coast, a brand-new tropical storm has formed amid a flurry of activity in the Atlantic basin. As of 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 23, the center of Tropical Storm Philippe was in the eastern Atlantic, moving toward the northwest at around 14 miles per hour, according to the National Hurricane Center.
