Glass shattered out of Somerville storefronts and vehicles because of stray bullets exchanged in a car-to-car shooting, officials say. Gunshots rang out at around 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 21 at 31 Temple Street, the Somerville Police Department told Daily Voice. A Worcester officer accused of taking money for overtime he didn't work and a Springfield cop charged with using his stun gun on a pregnant woman were among 15 law enforcement officials suspended by the state's Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) commission. The Somerville Police Department awarded three officers commendations this week for their quick thinking to resolve a sticky situation earlier this year while uncovering a stash of weapons and drugs at the suspect's house. Officers Mackenzie Richardson, Alex Lorenti, Joseph Moreira, and Detective Jason Costa went to a home at 32 Kent Street apartment 308 in March. A couple from Walpole is praising first responders from Somerville for helping them successfully deliver their newborn on the side of the road last month. The couple was on their way to Mount Auburn Hospital after the mother's water broke on the night of June 14, the father told the Somerville Police Department. Fallen Massachusetts Police Officer Remembered As 'True American Hero'
The Somerville Police Department is mourning the loss of Officer Randy Isaacs, who died unexpectedly this week. Officer Isaacs was a 15-year veteran with the department and a 24-year veteran of the Army National Guard, Somerville Police said. He served as a Master Sergeant on the 26th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade in addition to multiple tours in Kosovo and Afghanistan.
