Animal Hoarding: 60 Boxer Dogs Seized From Mass Home Taxing Help Networks
The MSPCA is asking for help after the group took in 60 boxers from a home in Essex County earlier this week, making it one of the largest seizures in the group's history. Police said officers removed the dogs from a home on Locust Grove Road in Merrimac on Tuesday, June 11, after receiving reports of animal hoarding and overcrowding. The owner voluntarily forfeited the dogs to authorities. Police did not release the owner's name as no charges have been filed, but a multi-agency investigation involving Haverhill, Windham (New Hampshire), and Merrimac police is ongoing. …

93-Year-Old Killed Riding Tricycle In Crash Near Merrimac Home
Authorities have identified a 93-year-old Massachusetts man killed in a fatal crash late Saturday afternoon, July 1. Robert Whitcomb of Merrimac was struck by a car while riding a tricycle near his home on Bartlett Street just after 5 p.m., Merrimac Police said. Paramedics rushed him to Portsmouth Hospital, but doctors couldn't save his life. The teenage driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators, authorities said. Merrimac Police are investigating the cause of the crash.

Hold on to those presents! A thief is pilfering packages from front porches at arguably the worst time of year for a delivery to go awry, authorities said. Homes in the Bartlet, School and Mill Street area fell victim to an unknown thief who stole packages from front porches around 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 10, Merrimac Police Department stated. The thief drove a white Honda to carry out their pillage. Merrimac Man Pleads Guilty To Raping, Kidnapping 74-Year-Old Woman
A 51-year-old man from Merrimac was sentenced to 22 years in prison after he pleaded guilty to raping and kidnapping a 74-year-old woman, the Essex County District Attorney's office said. The woman was sexually and physically attacked by William Raia after she awoke in her Merrimac home on July 3, 2021, the office reports. The woman escaped her home after the attack and ran to her neighbors house where police were called. Three firefighters were wounded and rushed to a hospital for help Sunday afternoon, Aug. 7, while battling a house fire in Essex County, authorities said. The fire began just after 2 p.m. on Skunk Road in Merrimac. When the first crew of firefighters arrived on the scene, flames nearly engulfed the entire home, and firefighters had to call for backup, the Merrimac Fire Department said.
