A firefighter was injured when part of the ceiling of a 24-unit apartment fell while he fought a raging fire, officials say. The fire at the apartment building, located at 200 Merrill Lane in Dracut, was reported around 9:14 p.m. on Tuesday, March 21, according to the Dracut Fire Department. Heavy fire had broken out from a second-floor apartment towards the back of the building. Dracut firefighters and police evacuated all of the building's residents and rescued two cats. 3 Pet Cats Die, Family Of 8 Displaced In Dracut 2-Alarm Fire
Dracut's fourth fire in a week claimed the lives of three pet cats, although a dog and a family of eight were able to make it to safety. A call made at around 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 15 reported a fire at 232 Nashua Road that spread from the dryer to the basement, according to the Dracut Fire Department. Firefighters cut through walls to put out a two-alarm fire and rescued one pet cat, but the burning led to the death of another cat and the displacement of a family of four, officials say. Sparklers Likely Caused 3-Alarm Fire That Displaced 9 People In Merrimack Valley Town
Fourth of July festivities are always fun, but when not handled properly they can be extremely dangerous. That was the reality for several people who were displaced after a 3-alarm fire was potentially ignited by leftover sparklers in Dracut, State Fire Marshal Peter J. Ostroskey said.
