The Essex County District Attorney announced on Wednesday that investigators believe they have solved the killing of 20-year-old college student Claire Gravel, a cold case that has stumped police for 36 years.
John Carey, 63, who is serving a 20-year prison sentence at MCI-Concord, will be charged with the death of Gravel in the coming days, the Essex County District Attorney said on Wednesday, Aug. 24.

A 75-year-old convicted serial killer has been charged with the 1968 murder of a woman on Long Island in the parking lot of a popular mall thanks to DNA technology.
Richard Cottingham, of the South Woods State Prison in Bridgeton, New Jersey, was arraigned virtually on Wednesday, June 22, on a grand jury indictment, charging him with one count of murder, said Nassau County District Attorney Anne Donnelly.

Cold CASE: Massachusetts Woman Nabbed For Baby's Freezing Death 36 Years Ago
A Massachusetts woman was arrested in connection with a 36-year-old Maine homicide case, authorities said.
Lee Ann Daigle, formerly Lee Ann Guerette, of Lowell, is being charged with the death her baby who was found dead in Frenchville, ME on December 7, 1985, Maine State Police said.
Baby Jane Doe was born and then found abandoned in below-zero temperatures at a gravel pit by a dog about 700 feet from his owner's house, police said.
Years of investigation identified Daigle as the baby's mother and she was arrested without incident on Monday, June 13, police said.
