More Rabid Raccoons Found In Boston
A fifth raccoon has tested positive in Boston for rabies, Boston Animal Care and Control announced on Facebook Friday, Aug. 18. This one was found near Hillside Avenue in Mission Hill. Three others were found in Jamaica Plain, and another was picked up in Roslindale. Rabies is transmitted through scratches and bites from infected animals. Animals infected with the virus are aggressive and may attack. So far, no humans have contracted the virus. Rabies is treatable if you seek medical attention promptly. Boston Proposal Would Fine Pet Shops For Selling Guinea Pigs In Addition To Cats, Dogs
Cage-bound pets will get the same protections cats and dogs have if a proposed ordinance passes, according to court documents. Boston City Councilor Liz Breadon proposed an update to the city's existing humane pet shop ordinance on Wednesday, March 22 that would prohibits the sale guinea pigs in pet shops in addition to existent restrictions on the sales of dogs, cats, and rabbits. The restriction is designed to improve animal welfare by reducing the number of guinea pig surrenders in the Boston area.
