Google announced the all-cash deal to purchase Wiz in a news release on Tuesday, Mar. 18. If the deal is approved, Wiz will be officially integrated into Google Cloud.

The acquisition comes as online threats increase, with artificial intelligence-driven risks and multicloud security challenges growing more complex. Google Cloud executives said the deal will enhance cybersecurity offerings, lower costs for customers, and improve protection across multiple cloud environments.

Cybersecurity threats have intensified as more organizations adopt cloud services. Wiz says it provides a seamless security platform that connects to all major cloud providers — including Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, and Oracle Cloud — to prevent breaches before they happen.

Google CEO Sundar Pichai said the deal reflects Google's focus on providing stronger security solutions and expanding cloud computing options.

"From its earliest days, Google's strong security focus has made us a leader in keeping people safe online," said Pichai. "Today, businesses and governments that run in the cloud are looking for even stronger security solutions and greater choice in cloud computing providers. Together, Google Cloud and Wiz will turbocharge improved cloud security and the ability to use multiple clouds."

Unlike traditional security services that focus on threat detection and response, Wiz proactively identifies vulnerabilities and attack paths, helping businesses secure their applications before deployment. Wiz has rapidly grown into a cybersecurity leader by offering an automated security platform that helps enterprises, startups, and public sector organizations manage their cloud security.

The platform scans cloud infrastructure, detects vulnerabilities, and enables teams to remediate risks efficiently.

"Wiz and Google Cloud are both fueled by the belief that cloud security needs to be easier, more accessible, more intelligent, and democratized, so more organizations can adopt and use cloud and AI securely," said Wiz CEO and co-founder Assaf Rappaport. "We both also believe Wiz needs to remain a multicloud platform, so that across any cloud, we will continue to be a leading platform."

Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian called the acquisition a step toward making cybersecurity more accessible and effective.

"Google Cloud and Wiz share a joint vision to make cybersecurity more accessible and simpler to use for organizations of any size and industry," Kurian said. "Enabling more companies to prevent cyber attacks, including in very complex business software environments, will help organizations minimize the cost, disruption and hassle caused by cybersecurity incidents."

Wiz and Google Cloud plan to develop an integrated security platform that combines Wiz's cloud security solutions with Google's AI-powered threat intelligence and security operations. Google Cloud will also continue to offer security solutions through its cloud marketplace, ensuring businesses have multiple options for securing their digital assets.

The acquisition is subject to regulatory approvals and standard closing conditions.
