A heated confrontation at a housing complex in Western Massachusetts turned violent over the weekend and sent two people to the hospital after they were pistol-whipped, authorities said.
Solomon Jones III, 32, of Pittsfield, is charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, carrying a firearm without a license, and threats to commit murder, among others, police said.

Wanted Man Crashes Into Pole, Knocks Out Power In Western Mass, Sparks Car Fire: Police
A routine traffic stop was anything but routine after the driver tried to escape, crashing into a utility pole, and starting a car fire in Berkshire County, authorities said.
Anthony Winters, age 27, of Pittsfield, was charged with several motor vehicle offenses and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, Pittsfield police said.
It all began around 9:30 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 4, when police went to pull over Winters' car in the area of West and Edwin Streets. He stopped momentarily but then floored it, hitting an officer as he tried to make his getaway.

Man, 72, On Mobility Scooter Hit, Killed In Western Mass Truck Crash
A 72-year-old Berkshire County man was killed on Tuesday night, May 28, when a car crashed into his mobility scooter as he crossed the street, authorities said.
David Frye, of Pittsfield, was struck by a 2014 Dodge Ram truck around 7 p.m. as he was on Second Street in Pittsfield, Pittsfield police said.
The truck's driver, from North Adams, turned onto Second Street from Wallace Place when she struck Frye. Paramedics rushed him to Berkshire Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, authorities said.
