Big Lots Expands Store Closures Amid Bankruptcy Filing: Here's Rundown In Mass. Discount retail chain Big Lots has filed for bankruptcy as its list of planned store closures expands. It currently has around 1,425 stores nationwide. The company announced on Monday, Sept. 9 that it will sell its assets to an affiliate of private equity firm Nexus Capital Management. In announcing initial store closures late in late July, Big Lots said a bankruptcy filing could be coming. Big Lots To Close Hundreds More Stores, Including Several In Massachusetts It's more bad news for discount retailer Big Lots. The nationwide chain announced in June that it would close 40 stores following dismal sales and rising costs, but in a new filing last week, the company said it may need to shutter nearly 300 locations — several of them in the Northeast.  Big Lots announced in a US Securities and Exchange Commission filing on Friday, Aug. 2, that under an updated term sheet, the company would need to close 20 percent of its 1,392 stores — about 290 in all.  Here are some of the local closures. $25K A Year For Life: Western Mass Man Wins Lottery Jackpot That Keeps Giving A Western Mass Man recently won a lottery jackpot that will pay him off for the rest of his life.  Jacky Huang, of West Springfield, won the $25,000 a year for life prize as part of the multi-state Lucky for Life game. He matched all five numbers in the June 10 drawing.  He said he played his family members' birthdays for the numbers.  Huang chose to take the annuity payments of $25,000 (before taxes) that will run for the rest of his life, the Massachusetts State Lottery said.  He plans to put the money toward his sister's college tuition.  He bought the ticket …

Man's Body Pulled From Western Mass. River Man's Body Pulled From Western Mass. River
Man's Body Pulled From Western Mass. River Police in Hampden County are investigating after they pulled the body of a man from a river in West Springfield earlier this week.  West Springfield police were alerted to a body around 2 p.m. on Friday, June 21, in the Westfield River. He was found in the area of Front Street near the fish ladder, police said in a Facebook post.  The man was dead when police arrived. Authorities have not released his name.  West Springfield police are investigating the incident, but officers do not believe foul play was involved.

$100K Lottery Ticket Sold In West Springfield It was a lucky weekend for one Bay Stater after they collected a $100,000 check in the Massachusetts State Lottery.  They won the money after correctly guessing all five numbers in the Mass Cash drawing. Those are 7, 12, 17, 26, and 29. West Springfield Man ID'd As Victim In Fatal Stabbing West Springfield Man ID'd As Victim In Fatal Stabbing
West Springfield Man ID'd As Victim In Fatal Stabbing A 50-year-old man has been identified as the victim in a West Springfield fatal stabbing over the Memorial Day weekend, authorities said.  Joseph Seymour, of West Springfield, was killed on Saturday, May 25, just after 10 p.m. when he was stabbed, the Hampden District Attorney's Office said.  Police were called to the 10-20 block of Amostown Road to a report of an unresponsive stabbing victim.  Paramedics rushed Seymour to Baystate Medical Center, where he later died of his injuries.  West Springfield police are investigating the slaying.
