The boy was charged with making a bomb threat and was being held on a $750 bail, the Suffolk County District Attorney said. If he makes bail, he will be on house arrest except for when he goes to an alternate school placement, and he must stay off social media.
Chelsea police were called to Shore Educational Collaborative on Oct. 17 after the boy attacked another student with a hanger, the prosecutor said. As school staff dragged him away, he reportedly screamed, "Dead, dead, everyone is dead! Going to come back with a gun and shoot everyone up!"
The following day, a student told administrators that the boy had posted a photo on social media posing with a gun with a caption that read he would "shoot (the school) up," the DA's Office said. Several students skipped school the next day for fear of being hurt.
Suffolk County District Attorney Kevin Hayden said no one should be forced to live in fear.
We have seen far too much school violence across our nation, and those incidents force us to treat school threats with extreme seriousness and caution. No one should feel unsafe or threatened when they are attending school or work. Prevention is key here, and it is always best to intervene before it escalates.
