Man Battles Yacht Blaze Until Firefighters Can Finish Off Job In Newburyport
A nearby boat owner at an Essex County yacht club helped keep a blaze at bay until firefighters could arrive, officials said. A 42-foot yacht at the Newburyport Yacht Club, located at 300 Merrimack Street, caught on fire before 10:20 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 20, according to the Newburyport Fire Department. The owner of another boat noticed the fire and called 911 before taking the initiative and grabbing a fire extinguisher to help battle back the blaze. Driver Hospitalized, Person Struck By Car That Smashed Into Newburyport Dental Office
One person was hospitalized in an incident in which a car crashed into the front of a local dental office. The vehicle smashed into Dr. Norma Colletta's Family Dental Care, located at Port Plaza, 45 Storey Avenue in Newburyport on Tuesday, June 6, according to a joint statement released by the Newburyport Fire and Police Departments. A chemical explosion at an industrial park resulted in the death of one person and the hospitalizations of four others. An industrial worker found dead on Thursday, May 5 was identified by officials as 62-year-old Jack O'Keefe, of Methuen, according to the Essex County District Attorney’s office. Suspiciously Sinking North Shore Fire Boat Sparks Investigation
Authorities are looking for answers after a Newburyport Fire Department's Marine Unit vessel suspiciously sank while docked on the Merrimack River. A person walking in the area told Newburyport Police they saw the boat partially submerged while docked at Cashman Park around 4 a.m. on Friday, June 17, Newburyport Fire said.
