Basketball legend Dikembe Mutombo, who played for the Philadelphia 76ers, New Jersey Nets and New York Knicks as part of a Hall of Fame career, died of brain cancer at the age of 58, the NBA announced on Monday, Sept. 30.

James Earl Jones, the beloved actor and voice behind one of cinema's most memorable villains, died Monday, Sept. 9, at his home in Dutchess County, Variety reported.

Maryland State Police ID MA, NJ Women Killed In Crash, Virginia Victim Airlifted To Hospital
Two people were killed and a third was airlifted to the hospital on Wednesday afternoon following a multi-vehicle crash in Charles County, state police confirmed.
On Thursday, police said that Norma Matthews, 81, of Lowell, Massachusetts, and Virginia Licata, 86, of Blackwood, NJ, have been identified as the pair killed in a crash on July 24 that shut down Route 301 for hours.
The other driver, King George, Virginia resident Caitlynn Connell, 28, was also flown by Maryland State Police helicopter to Capital Region Medical Center for treatment of her injuries.

A 33-year-old Hampden County man on a camping trip in Vermont was killed on Friday, Sept. 8, when a tree fell on him during a storm, authorities said.
Joshua Przybycien, of Palmer, was camping with his fiancée, Kathryn Workman, in Somerset, Vermont, when high winds and heavy rains toppled the tree around 1 a.m., Vermont State Police said. No one else was injured.

Tomaso Schena, a local artist with a big following, died suddenly on Friday, May 5 in Newton, according to the City of Haverhill Mayor's Office.

A restaurant family on the North Shore is mourning the death of one of their own.
Amanda Dixey, whose husband Tom Dixey is a chef at The Lobster Shanty in Salem, died unexpectedly after a "brief illness" on Sunday morning, Jan. 29, according to a GoFundMe.
