No Joke: Boston Named America's Funniest City, New Study Says

The City of Boston has belly-laughed its way to the number-one spot on a list of America's funniest cities, according to a new study.

The study, from Shiny Smile Veneers, analyzed information from the 25 most populous US cities and all 50 states, and found that no other city out-knock-knocks Boston.

Boston landed a funny score of 94 out of 100, scoring high in the following markers of merriment:

Residents per comedy club
Residents per comedy festival
Residents per comedy special host city
Residents per top comedian’s home state
Search volume per city/state

Following Boston on the leaderboard are the cities of Los Angeles and San Francisco, which tied for the number two spot.

Unsurprisingly, the state of Massachusetts landed the number one spot on the study's funniest state ranking. On the opposite side of the funny bone, North Dakota was named the worst state for laughs, followed by Wyoming and Arkansas.
