Reading Rocker Dies Suddenly; Band, Friends Rally To Raise Thousands
The Massachusetts music community is mourning the sudden loss of a 28-year-old rising musician and mentor whose impact reached far beyond his hometown. Owen P. Leahy, of Reading, died on Jan. 6, according to an online obituary. A graduate of Northshore Recovery High School, he was a carpenter by trade, a photographer by passion, and a musician as the co-founder and bass player of the DIY emo band This Is Pointless. Middlesex County authorities said they have seen six shootings over the past month, with as many as 60 shots being fired, damaging homes and cars and seriously injuring one person. “Every time a gun is illegally fired in our neighborhoods, it creates the risk of death or serious injury for innocent people," said Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan. Parts Of Endangered Species Smuggled Into US By Mass. Man: Feds
A 39-year-old Reading man is accused of helping smuggle the skulls, skins, and other parts of animals — many of them endangered — into the United States to sell on the black market, federal authorities said. Adam Bied is charged with two counts of conspiracy to smuggle goods into the United States, specifically, illegally imported wildlife parts, and three counts of violating the Lacey Act which prohibits trafficking in wildlife, the US Attorney for Massachusetts said. Wilmington Woman Caught Driving Drunk With Children In Car In Reading: Police
A 49-year-old Wilmington woman was arrested while driving drunk and speeding in Reading, authorities said. It was the second time she's been busted driving while intoxicated. Megan Nagarian was arrested on Thursday, June 20, and charged with operating under the influence (second offense), marked lanes violation, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, speeding, and two counts of child endangerment while operating under the influence, Reading police said.
