Power Surge Shutters Several Business On Main Street In Reading (Update) A portion of downtown Reading was shut down after an apparent power surge in Reading Center, authorities said.  Businesses in the 600 block of Main Street called about having "electrical issues" around 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 19, the Town of Reading said in a statement.  The businesses reported issues like a burned surge protector, electrical smells and flickering lights. Initial reports also indicated a traffic light was out, the statement said.   All companies are currently operating on Main Street in the square for major electrical issues in multiple buildings.
