'We Survived Together': Mass. Iraq Veteran Rescues Cat From Deployment
US Army Sgt. Shane Finnegan said he doesn't like the nickname members of his unit gave him during his 10-month deployment to Iraq last year even if he's earned it honestly. The "Cat Daddy," who lives in Monson, picked up the moniker after he adopted a feline friend he made during his first deployment. During his second stint overseas — last year in Iraq — he made another. So when it was time to return home, members of his unit turned to him to see if he would be willing to do it again. Navy Captain From Mass Helms Warship Amid Mediterranean Sea Deployment
The US Navy has deployed its second aircraft carrier to the Eastern Mediterranean, and aboard the ship is a commander who was born, raised, and educated in Massachusetts. USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN 69) (IKE) was deployed on Oct. 14 and will be in the Eastern Mediterranean. The deployment is in an effort to "deter hostile actions against Israel or any efforts toward widening this war following Hamas’s attack on Israel," Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III said.
