A three-alarm fire claimed the life of a man who became the sixth older adult to die in a house fire in the past three weeks, officials say. A passerby spotted smoke emanating from a home at 2 Railroad Avenue around 4:10 a.m. on Friday, April 21, according to the Rowley Fire Department. Authorities on the North Shore are investigating after the body of a woman was found in a burning vehicle this week. Rowley Police responded to a report of a car crash at 935 Haverhill Street just before 1 a.m. on Friday, April 7, the Essex County District Attorney's Office reports. An Ipswich man who pleaded guilty last year to owning hundreds of images and videos of child porn — some featuring infants and toddlers — will spend the next eight years behind bars, federal authorities said. An Ipswich man who was arrested with several hundred images and videos of child pornography has pleaded guilty and now faces decades in prison, authorities said. Ipswich Man, 70, Killed After Intentionally Stepping In Front Of Train: MBTA
A 70-year-old Ipswich died Tuesday morning, Aug. 16, after authorities said he intentionally stepped in front of an oncoming train. The man was walking along MBTA property off of Linebrook Road around 9 a.m. when he stepped onto the tracks and stood in the way of the train, MBTA officials said in an email to Salem News. He was still alive when officers arrived, and they provided what medical aid they could until paramedics rushed him to Beverly Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead when he arrived, Ipswich police said. They did not release the man's name.

Person Drowns At Pavilion Beach In Ipswich: Police
Authorities in Ipswich are investigating after a person drowned over the weekend. Ipswich Police and Fire Departments responded to a person in distress at Pavilion Beach around 5:17 p.m. on Sunday, July 31, both departments said in a joint release. Crews pulled the individual from the water, who wished to remain unidentified, before taking them to a local hospital where they later died. The incident is under investigation.

Fire officials on the North Shore are applauding more than just their own crews for containing a fire and preventing further damage at a classic car storage unit in Ipswich over the weekend. Firefighters responded to the fire at Clam Town Classics, located at 11 Old Right Road, just before noon on Saturday, June 25, the Ipswich Fire Department said.
