Seraphina Brown, a 19-year-old alumnus of the Cambridge Rindge and Latin School, became the 2023 USA Boxing National Qualifier Runner-up in her category at the USA Boxing National Qualifiers in Detroit which took place from March 18-25.

Over 1,000 boxers, ranging in age from eight to 40, competed at the week-long national tournament looking to show their skills and work their way towards qualifying for the 2024 U.S. Olympic Boxing Team.

Brown participated in the Cambridge Police Youth Boxing Program since she was a young teenager, according to a post made by the Cambridge Police Department celebrating Brown's success. She moved on to box at another gym, but recently returned to the program to supplement her training and reconnect, the post said.

The program, which enrolls nearly 100 students annually, was created in 2011 to create a fun and safe space for young people to enhance physical fitness, improve confidence, and learn self-defense and de-escalation strategies.

"Way to go Seraphina," the police department's post said. "We are so proud of you!"
