Danielle Pattavina is the owner of Momma's Grocery + Wine, which will open at 2304 Massachusetts Avenue in Cambridge in March, Pattavina said in a Facebook post.
"It’s been a long road but the end is near! (Which is actually the beginning!)," they wrote. "For this last leg, I’m turning to you for a little help."
Pattavina, who also runs Schmetterling Wine Shop in Middlebury, VT, was the sole funder of Momma's opening until she launched a NuMarket campaign in January.
Momma's, which will prioritize LGBTQ & BIPOC growers, will house products sourced from Martha's Vineyard, Vermont, southern Rhode Island and Massachusetts.
"Momma’s Grocery + Wine exists to feature these really good products (and people!)," the campaign reads. "Momma’s will have eggs, milk, butter, greens, herbs, flowers, potato chips, cider, chocolates, meats, and grains, all grown, or made, in New England."
Through the campaign, Pattavina raised more than $44,000 that will go towards covering the costs of signage, a soft-serve machine, and restoration of an antique tin ceiling.
Money aside, Pattavina said the campaign has helped them establish tight relationships with friends new and old as well as customers near and far.
"I live in the neighborhood that the shop is in, so I see people on a day to day basis," Pattavina said. "I'm realizing we're going to be a spot that people come on a regular basis and catch up on the neighborhood news. I'm so proud of that, being a community spot."
Shoppers can also expect several surprises including special seasonal items, hot coffee and the best local pastries. Overall, Pattavina hopes to cater to the community's needs as Momma's houses more goods.
"I have a vision, of course, but the community that comes on a daily basis and asks for certain items, you know, as we grow, there's bound to be surprises in store for all of us," they said. "I'm excited to see what take shape."
While an official opening date has yet to be revealed, Pattavina did confirm they plan on hosting an open house once the finishing touches are done on the store's interior in March. More information about Momma's can be found by following them on Instagram.
