Woman Killed In New Bedford Shooting Remembered For Her Forgiveness, Strength
A fundraiser for a woman who was fatally shot earlier this week describes her as a kind and loving person who would always help those in need.
Karina Martinez Ortiz, 32, of New Bedford, was found with gunshot wounds outside her apartment on Tuesday night, March 4, authorities said.
Police responded to a 911 call about a woman with serious injuries lying on Bolton Street around 6:30 p.m. She was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she later died from her injuries.
Police arrested Wilo Morales-Colon, 49, of New Bedford, on Thursday morning, charging him with her murder.

Missing Lawrence Mom Found Dead In Haverhill, Neighbor Charged: DA
A mother of two who has been missing since last weekend was found dead in a wooded area in Haverhill, authorities said.
Carol Flaz-Burgos, 37, of Lawrence, was reported missing on Saturday, Aug. 31. Searchers found her body near Winnekenni Castle beside Kenoza Lake in Haverhill earlier this week.
Friends said she walked outside to throw away a bag of trash at her Broadway Street home and never returned. Her son called 911, which sparked the massive search.
