Trooper Terence Kent was indicted by a Middlesex Grand Jury on Tuesday, March 11, on charges of bribery and indecent assault and battery, the Middlesex District Attorney's Office said. The allegations stem from an Aug. 24, 2024, incident that unfolded along Soldiers Field Road in Brighton.
According to prosecutors, the victim was parked near the roadway when Kent allegedly used his marked cruiser to block the vehicle. When the victim asked him to move, Kent reportedly claimed the victim’s registration and insurance had expired and that the car would have to be towed.
The situation took a darker turn when Kent allegedly directed the victim to a Department of Transportation property in Lexington. There, he is accused of proposing a deal—if the victim performed a sexual act for him, he would not tow the vehicle, the prosecutor's office said.
Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan called Kent's alleged actions a "blatant violation of the public trust."
The defendant in this case allegedly used his position of power as a sworn police officer to commit a sexual assault. These allegations, if true, are a blatant violation of the public trust and his obligation to uphold high ethical standards and the values of the community. Today’s indictment is a reflection of our continued commitment to the highest level of accountability and transparency when it comes to those entrusted to protect public safety.
Daily Voice has reached out to the Massachusetts State Police for more information.
State Police suspended Kent without pay in November over a sexual misconduct allegation. He was also suspended in 2023 for abandoning his post, MassLive previously reported.
The Boston Herald reported Kent made $173,000 as a state trooper in 2023.
