Holyoke Man Sentenced For Sexual Assault Of 13-Year-Old
A sexual assault case that has been unfolding for almost two years wrapped up in the maximum sentence for the offender, according to court records. Hampden County resident Miguel Rivera, age 49, of Holyoke, was arrested in Hartford County by Enfield Police in December 2020, according to court documents. Rivera pleaded guilty on Wednesday, Dec. 7, and was sentenced to five years in prison on Wednesday, Feb. 1 for sexual assault in the second degree of a victim under 16 and injury or risk of injury to a minor. Thousands Without Power As Snow Blankets Parts Of Western Mass
As much as a foot of snow has fallen in parts of Western Massachusetts on Friday, Dec. 16, with more on the way. But along with the beautiful views come traffic issues and power outages. The Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) lists more than 3,000 power outages in pockets across the state, with most reported in the west, where snow is at its heaviest. Police Investigating Alleged Sexual Assault Of High School Student In Region
An investigation has reportedly been launched into the alleged sexual assault of a student in a Western Massachusetts high school. It is alleged that in Hampden County, a student at Holyoke High School was the victim of an alleged sexual assault that is now being investigated by area police. Vacant Paper Mill Is On Fire - For The 4th Time Since June
For the fourth time since this summer, an empty paper factory has caught fire. In the early morning hours of Thursday, Dec. 10, firefighters received a report of flames at the old Strathmore Paper Mill on Valley View Avenue in Russell. As of 9 a.m. on Thursday, the fire was still blazing. This is the fourth time, the old paper mill has caught on fire in just over half a year. A rural Western Massachusetts city is second only to Boston in the number of residents authorized to carry rifles and shotguns. As of July, the Massachusetts Department of Criminal Justice Information Services reported that there are 390 people with active Firearms Identification Cards (FID Cards) in Westfield. Boston has 620 registered FID cardholders. To own a rifle or shotgun in Massachusetts, you need an FID card. To carry a handgun, you need a *license to carry (LTC).
