41-Year-Old In New Hampshire Dies From Serious Mosquito Virus Eastern Equine Encephalitis
One person has died and two others in the Northeast have been infected this summer with a rare but serious mosquito-borne disease. Eastern equine encephalitis (EEE) is caused by a virus spread to people through the bite of an infected mosquito, similar to the West Nile virus. On Tuesday, Aug. 27, an adult from the town of Hampstead, in southeastern New Hampshire who tested positive for EEE died, the New Hampshire Department of Public Health announced. Loud Boom Heard In New England May Have Been Meteor, Scientists Say
A loud boom heard in parts of New England over the weekend may have been caused by a meteor entering the atmosphere, according to a new report. New Hampshire TV station WMUR reported that some residents across parts of Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Maine reported hearing the sound around 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 10. The news station said scientists reported that the sound may have been a sonic boom from a meteor that burned up after entering the atmosphere at supersonic speed.
