'Barbaric Attack': 2 Men Who Burned Victim During Springfield Home Invasion Sentenced
Two men found guilty of torturing and permanently disfiguring a Springfield man during a 2019 home invasion were sentenced to decades in prison on Thursday, June 27, authorities said.
Paul Gayle, 30, and Malik Erskine, 24, both of Springfield, were found guilty of multiple violent felonies in the "barbaric attack," Hampden District Attorney Anthony D. Gulluni. Markendall Johnson, now 21, who was charged as a youthful offender because of his age on the day of the robbery, was also convicted in the case.

Auburn police are asking for the public's help in identifying suspects in a recent violent robbery where a man was shot at and beaten, authorities said. Investigators arrested one man already in the case but are searching for two more.
The attack happened on Sunday, Jan. 8, just before 6:15 p.m. in the area of South Street and Route 20, Auburn police said. A man said he was riding in a car with three other men who robbed him at gunpoint, assaulted him, and fired the gun at him, Auburn police said.

A news report said that police in 2003 arrested a Quincy man accused of multiple violent rapes, but prosecutors dropped the charges.
Ivan Cheung, 42, is charged with four counts of rape — two against children — that allegedly happened in 2003, 2005, and 2006, the Suffolk County District Attorney's Office said. Investigators arrested Cheung on Monday, Sept. 12. He did not appear at his initial hearing on Tuesday, Sept. 13, but his attorney entered a not guilty plea on his behalf, the prosecutor said.

A new travel advisory has been issued for Americans who may be planning on heading to Mexico, warning them of "violent crime and kidnapping.”
The US State Department advisory comes after incidents of vandalism, looting, and other crimes in the northern part of the Mexican state of Baja California, including the city of Tijuana, along the southern-most border of California.

Western Mass Armed Robbery Suspect Nabbed Minutes After Crime, Police Say
An alleged Western Massachusetts attempted armed robber was caught just minutes after the crime by police patrolling the area.
Jose Diaz, age 28,was captured around 6 a.m., Sunday, June 27, in Springfield.
Diaz, of Springfield, was captured after officers received a call for an armed robbery in progress on Armory Street, said Ryan Walsh, spokesman for the Springfield Police.
Police were able to locate Diaz and the knife he allegedly used in the attempted armed robbery, police said.
Walsh said the store's clerk was able to get him out of the store without him stealing anything.…
