Fatal Shooting: Police ID 39-Year-Old Springfield Man Killed Over Weekend In Western Mass
The Hampden County District Attorney's Office has released the identity of one of the two people shot and killed over the weekend in Springfield. Felipe Dejesus, 39, of Springfield, was shot on the 100 block of Spring Street around 7:45 p.m. on Saturday, June 24., authorities said. Police responded to a ShotSpotter activation and found Dejesus bleeding out from a bullet wound. Responders rushed him to Baystate Medical Center, but doctors could not save his life. Two men are dead, and two are recovering from gunshot wounds following two weekend shootings in Hampden County. Police do not believe they are linked. The first happened around 5:45 p.m. in the 100 block of Spring Street in Springfield on Saturday, June 24, where police found two men suffering from bullet wounds, authorities said. A judge sentenced a Springfield man who shot his rival six times to at least a dozen years behind bars — if not longer, authorities announced. Edgar Gomez-Diaz was convicted on seven charges, including armed assault with intent to murder, assault and battery with a firearm, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon resulting in serious bodily injury, and multiple firearms charges, the Hampden District Attorney's Office said. Man Facing Charges For Involvement In Western Mass Shooting
A Western Mass man is facing numerous charges for his alleged involvement in a shooting that left one person seriously injured. Edgar Gomez-Diaz, age 36, of Springfield, was arrested on Tuesday, May 4, after an officer heard gunshots in the area of Spring and Pearl Streets and located a man who was shot on Spring Street around 12:20 p.m., said Springfield Police Spokesman Ryan Walsh.
