West Springfield High Off Lockdown After Hoax Threat Made Against School: Police
West Springfield High was momentarily put on lockdown Friday, March 3, after someone called in a fake threat about the Hampden County school, officials said. The hoax is the last in a worrying and growing trend called "swatting." West Springfield police said someone called the department's non-emergency line just after 8:20 a.m. to make the threat. Officers responded to the high school within a minute and worked with administrators to begin safety protocols, which included a lockdown. Update: Chicopee School Superintendent Alvin W. Morton said Chicopee High School has been taken off lockdown. Police have released more information related to a death investigation that started after a body was found outside a private home in Central Massachusetts last week. Boylston Police responded to a call from a resident who said that a man with a gun had knocked on his door around 1:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 13, the department said on Facebook. The resident hid inside his home once he saw the weapon and proceeded to call 911. The man also identified the suspect as his former coworker, police said. Three students are expected to face charges for making a fake bomb threat and forcing two schools in central Massachusetts on lockdown, authorities said. Several Connecticut schools were placed on lockdown after an assault was reported at a residence in the area. Police received a report of an assault with a knife in Hartford County at a home on Columbus Avenue near Route 6 in Bristol at about 8:50 a.m. on Wednesday, May 4, the Bristol Police Department reported. A 20-year-old suspect has been arrested for an alleged drive-by shooting that led to lockdowns at three Connecticut schools, authorities announced.
