Speed A Factor In Fatal Western Mass Crash, Police Say A single-vehicle crash killed a driver who lost control of his vehicle, according to police. The crash took place in Hampden County in West Springfield around 10:45 p.m., Saturday, April 23 on Route 5. The driver lost control of the motorcycle on Route 5 between the Memorial and North End bridges, said Sgt. Joseph LaFrance, of the West Springfield Police. Arriving officers started CPR and other life-saving measures until the driver could be transported to Baystate Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead, LaFrance said. On Monday, Feb. 15, around 7:44 p.m., police officers responded to a report of a fight at the Quality Inn on Route 5 (Riverdale Road) in West Springfield. Upon arrival, West Springfield Police were led to a room with a victim who had suffered a non-life-threatening stab wound to the torso. Police Investigate Possible Suicide At Movie Theater Police are investigating a possible suicide in a theater parking lot. West Springfield Police went to the theaters on Route 5 (Riverdale Road) on Tuesday, Sept. 29, early in the morning to investigate what appears to be a self-inflicted fatality, according to WesternMass News. The incident is still under investigation. When police arrived they found a man in his 20s unresponsive and laying on the ground near a car.
