Westchester Broadcasting Pioneer William O’Shaughnessy Dies
William O’Shaughnessy, a broadcasting pioneer in New York, died at his home in Connecticut on Saturday, May 28. He was 84. O'Shaughnessy was owner and president of Whitney Radio, which owns and operates WVOX in Westchester County. A 1999 New York Times profile described O'Shaughnessy as "a flamboyant figure, a tall man with bright silver hair and a penchant for London-made suits and Corvette convertibles." 30-Year-Old CT Resident Remembered As Dedicated Coach, Loving Husband
A late former Connecticut resident is being remembered as a dedicated basketball coach and a loving husband. Michael Freilich died in his sleep from natural causes on Friday, Dec. 17, according to his obituary. He was 30 years old. Born in Kentucky in 1991, Freilich was raised in West Hartford and was well-known on the basketball courts around town. His passion for the sport was obvious, and he was a force to be reckoned with at Morley and the JCC, those who knew him said. High School Senior Was Victim Of Fatal Single-Car Crash On Holyoke-Southampton Line
A high school student who died in a car crash in late-February is being remembered by the community as a passionate student with a strong work ethic and a great friend. Markiyan “Mark” Yuzych, 18, of West Springfield, died on Feb. 28 when, around 10:30 p.m., the vehicle he was driving crashed into a utility pole on County Road near the Holyoke-Southampton border. When emergency responders arrived on the scene, the car was fully engulfed in flames, WWLP reported. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
