2 Charged With Animal Abuse After Dog Found Starved With Broken Bones In Western Mass
A dog in Franklin County named Conrad was rescued from horrid conditions that left him emaciated, with several broken bones that had healed without being treated, and 20 small rocks in his stomach, the MSPCA said. Officials are looking to get justice for an underweight dog who was tied to a pole and abandoned, leaving her injured and alone. The medium-sized, mixed breed female dog was found on Porter Street in Granby in the evening of Tuesday, April 4, according to the MSPCA. 'Unstoppable' Puppy Makes Cross-Country Trek For Lifesaving Surgery In Mass
A homeless puppy who was literally facing life or death traveled from Arizona to Massachusetts for a surgery that ended up saving her, animal rescue officials said. Valentina, a 12-week-old Chocolate Lab, was surrendered to a private veterinary practice in Arizona, the MSCPA-Angell reports. The puppy was unable to keep food down and was later diagnosed with vascular ring anomaly. The rare disorder results in the entrapment and constriction of the esophagus and requires corrective surgery so that dogs can eat, the agency said. About a month after 20 cats were rescued from devastating flooding in Kentucky, the MSPCA-Angell and Northeast Animal Shelter (NEAS) have welcomed another 26 cats to Massachusetts. The felines were displaced by flooding that started in July as local animal shelters struggled to house the sudden influx of animals. The MSPCA at Nevins Farm in Methuen is calling on some "very special" adopters to find homes for some very special pets. The organization announced Thursday, Aug. 11 that over 100 goats need new homes after they were rescued from a Dighton property in January. The goats, along with an adult mustang and emu, were seized after their previous owner failed to pay a $100,000 security that covered caring for animals from cruelty cases, the MSPCA said. The organizations are trying to find homes for 20 cats who were recently displaced by deadly flooding in Kentucky, the MSPCA said. Seventy-six beagles are responding well and will soon need new homes after being saved from a breeding facility by Massachusetts animal rescue teams. The beagles are being housed at Northeast Animal Shelter and the MSPCA's adoption centers after being rescued from the out-of-state shelter, both organizations said on Facebook.
