A Springfield man who shot a Massachusetts state trooper on New Year's Eve 2020 will spend the next 12 to 15 years behind bars, a judge ruled on Tuesday, Dec. 5. Christopher Gardner, 34, was accused of shooting the state trooper around 11:30 p.m. on Dec. 31, 2020. A 19-year-old trying to escape police in Hampshire County lost control of his car, left the road, and went airborne, causing his vehicle to come apart, authorities said. A Massachusetts state trooper was seriously injured after being struck by a tractor-trailer while protecting a road construction crew. The incident took place around 11:44 p.m., Tuesday, Sept.. 28 on I-95 southbound near its intersection with the Mass Pike in Weston in Middlesex County.
