The number of COVID-19 cases in Massachusetts continues to increase as the death toll mounts across the state amid what some fear could slowly become a potential fourth wave of the virus. 19: First NY Case Of More Contagious 'Super Strain' Of Virus Confirmed In Store Worker
A case of the COVID-19 variant so-called "Super Strain" that is said to be approximately 70 percent more contagious has now been confirmed in New York. An upstate man in his 60s who had been symptomatic is now feeling better, according to New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Monday, Jan. 4. The man works at N. Fox Jewelers on Broadway in Saratoga Springs, which has been closed since Thursday, Dec. 24. Massachusetts has changed the system for local COVID-19 rates and infections in a move Gov. Charlie Baker will provide cities and towns with a more accurate picture of the risk. 19 Positive Rate Over 4 Percent In Massachusetts - 4 Days In A Row
For the fourth day in a row, Massachusetts' daily positive COVID-19 test rate has surged over 4 percent. The daily positive rate is now 4.68 percent. For much of the summer, it was at 2 percent and under. Massachusetts has a goal of having its daily positive test rate below 5 percent by December.
