Man Killed In Police-Involved Shooting Near MGM Springfield: Authorities
Authorities are investigating after a 48-year-old man was killed in a police-involved shooting in Springfield this week. Police responded to reports of a possibly armed man acting aggressive to others at the MGM Casino around 2 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 25, Hampden District Attorney Anthony Gulluni reports. Upon arrival, officers tried to find the man as he left the casino and headed towards Main and Union streets. As police chased after him, shots were fired and the man was struck, Gulluni said. Springfield Man Who Shot Someone 6 Times Sentenced To Decade In Prison: DA
A judge sentenced a Springfield man who shot his rival six times to at least a dozen years behind bars — if not longer, authorities announced. Edgar Gomez-Diaz was convicted on seven charges, including armed assault with intent to murder, assault and battery with a firearm, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon resulting in serious bodily injury, and multiple firearms charges, the Hampden District Attorney's Office said. Chicopee Driver Was Drunk When He Killed Elderly Pedestrian: DA
Officials have charged a 42-year-old Chicopee man with running over and killing a 68-year-old pedestrian earlier this week, authorities said. Benjamin Goraj is charged with motor vehicle homicide while operating under the influence and operating under the influence — 3rd offense, Hampden District Attorney's said. He was given a $5,000 bond but must consent to multiple alcohol tests a day as a condition of his pre-trial release.
