19: Virus Outbreaks Recorded In 11 School Districts Last Week
This past week, 11 Massachusetts public schools experienced COVID-19 outbreaks of 9 or more students and staff coming down with the virus. The largest outbreak was recorded in Leominster. From March 4-10, 21 of the school district’s students (15) and staff (6) reported positive cases. The Massachusetts Department of Secondary and Elementary Education produces weekly reports on positive COVID-19 cases reported in each school district. At Least 26 Central, Western Mass Schools Get Free, Rapid-Result

Rapid-result COVID-19 testing is coming to 134 public Massachusetts School Districts and facilities in December to help stop the spread of the virus. Among the 134 districts and schools receiving testing, at least 26 individual schools and full districts are from Central and Western Massachusetts (not including the Berkshires). 'Low Risk' Districts Have 10 Days To Justify Remote Back-To-School Plans
Massachusetts is strongly encouraging about 15 school districts to put students back in the classroom. School districts in communities where the risk of COVID-19 infection is low should be offering in-class education, the state said. Low-risk districts that started the school year remotely, and do not have a firm date on when in-class education will begin received letters from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education on Friday, Sept. 18.
