3 Men Facing Charges In Connection With Whitey Bulger's Beating Death
Three men have been indicted in connection with the beating death of notorious Boston crime boss James "White" Bulger, the US Attorney’s Office of the Northern District of West Virginia reports. Fotios "Freddy" Geas, Paul "Pauly" DeCologero and Sean McKinnon were charged with conspiracy to commit first degree murder Wednesday, Aug. 17, the office reports. Former Harvard Department Chair Found Guilty Of Hiding Ties To China
A former Harvard University department chair has been found guilty of charges in connection with lying to federal authorities about his ties to China and failing to report income he received from a university in China. Charles Lieber, age 62, was found guilty on Tuesday, Dec. 21, of: Two counts of making false statements to federal authorities, Two counts of making and subscribing a false income tax return, Two counts of failing to file reports of foreign bank and financial accounts with the Internal Revenue Service. Former Resident In Region Sentenced For Charges Related To Sham Marriage
A former Western Massachusetts resident has been sentenced for entering into a sham marriage to obtain immigration benefits for another person. Phu Thanh Huynh, age 33, formerly of Springfield, has been sentenced to one year of probation and ordered to pay a $20,000 forfeiture after admitting to marrying a Vietnamese national in 2013. In September 2013, federal prosecutors said that Huynh married a Vietnamese national, referred to as Jane Doe, solely for the purpose of obtaining immigration benefits for Doe, never living together after the sham marriage. Ex-Police Chief In Fairfield County Sentenced For Rigging Exam
A former Fairfield County police chief arrested last year for rigging a police chief's exam has been sentenced. Bridgeport's former police chief AJ Perez was sentenced to 12 months and one day in prison on Monday, April 12. “I hold no malice to anyone, I did this to myself, I panicked,” Perez told U.S. District Judge Kari Dooley during his sentencing hearing.
