A federal jury found a 26-year-old Randolph man guilty of turning a 15-year-old runaway from Western Massachusetts into a prostitute, authorities announced. A 43-year-old Connecticut man wanted for allegedly killing a Springfield man and critically wounding a second in Vermont was arrested on Saturday, July 22, as he returned from Jamaica, authorities said. A Massachusetts court has once again upheld Dennis Bateman's murder conviction for the vicious killing of 21-year-old Brandy Waryasz and her unborn child in April 2005 in Franklin County. Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court denied Bateman's request for a retrial, the Northwestern District Attorney announced on Monday, July 17. Holyoke Officer Beaten Bloody During Fight After Suspect Grabbed For His Gun
A Holyoke officer was seriously injured after he was attacked during what started out as a routine interaction and ended in a violent fight for his life. The officer and his partner were called to an apartment building at 72 Essex St. Thursday night around 9 p.m. because someone reported three men were smoking "illegal narcotics" in the hallway, authorities said.
