Western Mass Father Of 2 ID'd As Man Killed By Train Strike
A Berkshire County father of two young children was identified as the victim of a fatal train strike Tuesday morning, July 30, authorities said. Douglas Hawley, age 40, of North Adams, was killed just before 11:30 a.m. after being hit by the train in North Adams, the Berkshire County District Attorney's Office said. Investigators said he was hit between the American Legion and the Brien Center, both on American Legion Drive in North Adams. The young parents from New York who were killed in a horrific crash while visiting family in Connecticut on Thanksgiving Day both worked as attorneys. The single-vehicle crash happened in Hartford County just after 7:15 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 23 near the Bristol/Farmington town line on Stevens Street in Bristol. A Food and Drug Administration vaccine advisory panel has voted to recommend Pfizer's COVID-19 vaccine for children ages 5 to 11. The endorsement of Pfizer's lower dose vaccine for younger kids was announced on Tuesday, Oct. 26, and it will be considered for authorization by the FDA next. Moderna is moving forward with its latest COVID-19 vaccine trial, testing it in children six months to less than 12 years old as the company reviews the effectiveness and safety of the shot in younger Americans. As part of the study, researchers will be giving two injections 28 days apart of either the Moderna vaccine or a placebo, to the children being tested.
