Arson Suspected After 4 Fires At Same Abandoned Mass Campus: ‘We’re Deeply Concerned'
Two more fires have torn through the long-abandoned Fernald School campus in Waltham, and officials believe they may be connected to a troubling pattern of arson dating back to last year. Waltham Fire Chief Andrew Mullin, Police Chief Kevin O’Connell, and State Fire Marshal Jon M. Davine confirmed that the recent fires, which happened in April, are now under investigation. A devastating seven-alarm fire that tore through two buildings on Union Street in Southbridge last month was intentionally set, state fire officials said. Twelve people were left homeless in the blaze, and investigators are now asking the public for help in finding who’s responsible. Basement Fire Breaks Out At Greater Boston Area Church Clergy House: Fire Officials
Authorities are offering rewards of up to $5,000 for information regarding an early morning fire that occurred at an empty clergy house in Arlington, fire officials said. Firefighters responded to the area of 22 Appleton Street just before 1:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 21, according to a release from State Fire Marshal Peter J. Ostroskey. Paper Mill Catches On Fire For Fourth Time In 2020 - Reward Offered For Information
In six months, the vacant, sprawling Strathmore Paper Mill has been engulfed in flames four times - the most recent being Dec. 10. Fires were set in two of the old mill buildings in June, July, November, and December. The destruction released asbestos that the Department of Environmental Protection cleaned and is holding the property owner liable for costs. Owner Jacob Trudeau purchased the mill in 2019 for $15,000 and hoped to put a marijuana cultivation business there, according to the Berkshire Eagle. The building was not insured, the paper reported.
