Lavonta Williams Jr., 29, of Chicopee, is charged with leaving the scene of personal injury and death. Jerimeldo Lopez, 23, of South Hadley, faces negligent operation of a motor vehicle and leaving the scene of personal injury and death charges, the Hampden District Attorney's Office said.
The prosecutor said they were in a vehicle that crashed into Vanessa Perez, of Springfield, on Feb. 9 on Abbey Memorial Road. Perez died before paramedics could get her to a hospital.
Her family called her selfless and hard-working.
Vanessa's spirit was rooted in family. She lived to support and uplift those she loved. Known for her work ethic, she gave everything to everything she did, whether it was work, play or enjoying the music she loved so much. Her energy, laughter, and unwavering dedication to the people around her will never be forgotten.
A funeral for the New Bedford native was held last month.
