Man Waiting In Line For Lunch Stabbed In Unprovoked Attack In Downtown Northampton

A man waiting to pick up his lunch in Western Massachusetts was viciously stabbed in his throat and his assailant went on the run, police said.

In Hampshire County, all available Northampton police officers responded to the downtown area at approximately noon on Thursday, March 10, where there was a reported stabbing at an area eatery.

Police said that the victim was waiting in line for his lunch when another man approached him from behind, unprovoked, and cut him with a knife in the front of his neck before fleeing the scene.

Officers and EMS from Northampton Fire Rescue provided medical aid at the scene to the stab victim, while police searched the area for the suspect, who was found within minutes and taken into custody without incident.

The 22-year-old Northampton man - whose name has not been disclosed by police - was arrested charged with assault and battery with a deadly weapon (the knife). He was held and scheduled to be arraigned in Northampton District Court on Friday, March 11.
