A highly contagious stomach bug is showing up in a way that can catch communities before doctor visits do. WastewaterSCAN data showed high norovirus levels nationally, including in the Northeast, according to its dashboard viewed Tuesday, June 2. WastewaterSCAN says it monitors norovirus and other infectious disease targets in wastewater samples across participating sites. Norovirus is often called the "stomach flu," but the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says it is not related to influenza.
