Scammer Targeted Baldwin Senior For $20K, But Victim Got Wise Just In Time: Police
A Long Island senior withdrew $20,000 in a technology-based scam but wised up just in time and called the cops, police said.
Biaodi Jiang, 50, of Brooklyn, was arrested Monday, Sept. 21 for the failed scam, the Nassau County Police Department said.
The would-be victim, a 68-year-old Baldwin man, was greeted Monday morning by a message on his computer claiming it had been compromised and displaying a phone number to call, according to police.

Pet-Hating Woman Left Shattered Glass Around Central Islip Apartment Complex, Authorities Say
A Long Island woman is facing an animal cruelty charge for taking creative measures to keep pets away from her apartment, authorities said Tuesday, Sept. 22.
Joyce Hamlett, 61, of Central Islip, scattered pieces of shattered glass and mothballs in common areas of her apartment complex in August, the Suffolk County SPCA said.
In addition to pets, multiple children under age 17 live in the complex, investigators said. However, Hamlett was focused on deterring animals from entering the areas, according to the SPCA.

Brick Vehicle Burglar Busted: Police
A man who broke into multiple vehicles in Brick has been apprehended, authorities said.
Throughout September, officers investigated multiple vehicle burglaries, Brick police said. Anthony Cericho specifically targeted work vehicles and stole approximately $15,000 worth of tools, equipment, and other property, Brick Township police said.
Cericho was identified following an extensive investigation, police said, and a search warrant led to the recovery of the tools and other property that he stole, police said.
