The incident happened in Windham County on Monday, Oct. 9 around 8:30 p.m., when a 1967 Triumph GT6 traveling south on Route 169 in Pomfret near the intersection with Harrisville Road ran off the right side of the road and struck a metal beam guardrail, according to state police.
The car then hit a traffic sign and a tree before coming to an uncontrolled rest in an embankment, police said.
The driver was later flown to UMass Hospital with serious injuries, while the passenger, 35-year-old New London County resident Elisha Roode of Waterford, was killed.
The crash is now under investigation.
