More Americans are planning trips for Memorial Day weekend, with a new forecast suggesting this year could set a new benchmark for holiday travel. A 20-year-old Meriden man was killed early Friday after his car crashed head-on into a bridge abutment, authorities said. The fatal wreck happened around 1:43 a.m. on Feb. 14 when a northbound 2007 Honda Accord slammed into an Amtrak train bridge near South Colony Road and Powers Drive in Meriden, police said. Part of a busy roadway carrying traffic across a dam in Connecticut has been reopened after being damaged by severe flooding, officials announced.
