AccuWeather meteorologists have just unveiled their forecast for the winter of 2024-25 and have released a map of where in the US the most snowfall is expected. In the image above, higher-than-average snowfall is predicted for those areas shown in light blue, with most areas in the Northeast are expected to receive more snow this season than last winter. Areas in the darker shade are expected to see below average snowfall in 2024-25, including in much of the Mid-Atlantic states. New Projected Track Released For Slow-Moving Weekend Storm
A new predicted track has been released by forecasters for a slow-moving storm that will move from west to east over the weekend. The timing for the storm is late Sunday night, Feb. 12 into Monday morning, Feb. 13. The latest projected path now has the bulk of the system staying south and not affecting areas farther north and inland, though there could be mixed precipitation in the New York City tristate area, according to the National Weather Service. At least 28 people are now confirmed dead in Erie and Niagara counties, where around 4 feet of snowfall, coupled with hurricane-force, lake-effect wind gusts of up to 80 miles per hour, have paralyzed the region for the third day. Three Hospitalized After Head-On Hampden County Crash During Storm
Three people received minor injuries during a head-on crash during a snowstorm in Western Massachusetts. The crash took place in Hampden County around 9:30 a.m., Friday, Jan. 7, near the intersection of Converse Street and Rugby Road in Longmeadow. When police arrived on the scene they found one of the vehicles on fire, but an officer was able to extinguish the flames, according to Longmeadow Police. Three people were taken to a local hospital for minor injuries, police said.
