For years, the 30-year-old New Milford native lived in his comfort zone, working his job and playing it safe. That changed after a road trip to the top of Alaska, where he met a South Korean cyclist his age biking from Dead Horse, Alaska, to the bottom of Argentina. “It lit a fire in me,” McLaughlin told Daily Voice. CT Woman Runs NYC Marathon For Son, Others Affected By Rare Condition Diane Owens never used to like running. In fact, she was vocal about it.  But that all changed after her son was diagnosed with a rare condition.  Nine years and many marathons, half-marathons, and 5K races later, she hasn't stopped pushing forward. Owens is originally from Bethpage on Long Island, before later moving to Connecticut as a child. She now lives in Southbury, in New Haven County.
